Online Course Evaluation
(VT Online Rating of Instruction)
The current online course evaluation system continues in limited production mode at the departmental level. The online system offers the following advantages:
• Increases ease of adding questions
• Increases flexibility to administer mid-term and end-of-term evaluations
• Improves efficiency through elimination of paper handling
• Saves valuable class time
• Improves turnaround of results
• Enhances student comments -- more thoughtful, in-depth.
• Expands opportunities for all students to respond
• Improves security
Evaluation results from the online system are integrated with the legacy paper evaluation system so that all data from both systems are stored in a secure database. Student responses are confidential. The online system prevents multiple responses from students and is designed with safeguards for confidentiality and authentication of responses.
During the 2009-10 academic year, the legacy evaluation system will continue in limited production mode for departmental use. There will also be evaluation conducted on a new Sakai course evaluation tool, which will eventually be integrated into Scholar.
