The Graduate Education Development Institute (GEDI)
GEDI offers Virginia Tech graduate students at unique opportunities to supplement the professional development they receive in their specific disciplines and primary departments. In partnership with the Graduate School’s Transformative Graduate Education initiative, GEDI offers for-credit graduate courses that focus on teaching and learning issues—including technology-enhanced active learning—that are broadly multidisciplinary in their scope and applicability. In GEDI, graduate students
• Explore how to become “reflexive practitioners” in terms of their own teaching praxis;
• Acquire an enhanced understanding of collaborative teaching tools in Scholar, and explore what constitutes critically engaged, technology-enriched teaching & learning in their discipline;
• Gain a general understanding of the connections between problem-based learning (PBL) and the use of case studies as ways to foster the development of active, rather than passive, learners.
